North Shore Animal League America opened its doors to its Friskies Cat Habitat on July 22, 2004. It was designed and constructed by Purina, who consulted with a well-known cat behaviorist, as an alternative to cages. All of the surfaces are covered in cat-friendly materials including sisal-covered scratching surfaces, carpets, foam and hidden nooks for exploring and napping. Here the feline inhabitants are able to roam freely, play, and socialize with the other pussycat residents 24 hours a day.

Located right across the street from our adoption center, the Cat Habitat gives our cats a chance to spread their legs, sharpen their claws and mingle with their peers. It is especially helpful to and appreciated by the cats who have been in our care more than 30 days. In addition, the Cat Habitat also helps adopters by giving them a better view of our cats’ spunky and playful personalities and allowing them to witness them in a home-like setting. And to encourage the adoption of our adult cats, all adoption fees for cats in the Habitat are waived!

Meet the Cats in the Cat Habitat

Azira
Name: Azira
Adoption #: R87938
Gender: M
Age: Adult

Hello there good people. My name is Azira. I've been at the Animal League since November of 2006. I was adopted as a kitten from the Animal League in 1999 and was really happy, but my owner couldn't take care of me anymore so I had to come back here. I'm an older gent but I've still got lots of spunk, and I love to chase the other cats around. I spend my days lounging around, and playing in the Cat Habitat just waiting for that special someone to bring me into their life and home. Could that be you?!

Hey you...yeah you! Over here!
I'm Muskrat, and I'm looking to come home with you. You see, I used to have a home. I'd spend my days watching The Price is Right and Jeopardy. I'm a big game show fan. They don't have a TV here and I'm missing all the questions! So if you think you can fit one more on your couch, than I'm aching to be that one.

Lobster
Name: Lobster
Adoption #: H191782
Gender: M
Age: Young

Hey there kind folk, I'm Lobster and my littermate is Sardine. We are a brother and sister pair who have been at the shelter since May of 2007, when our previous parents had to bring us here because they were moving. At first we were really scared, but we can see now that the service here is quite grand. But the two of us can't wait to have a home of our own to run around and play! We would do best in a home without young children, but other kitty friends would be just fine. Ask to speak to associate about us.
Don't forget to bring the treats!
